about
This is a tribute to my friend Dan Finn (1974-2022)
Flying way too close to distant stars as they went super nova, that was Dan’s approach to making music. It was spontaneous, incendiary, intrepid. Welcoming contributions of others willing to commit to the journey.
This composition draws upon elements of our time in Lockgroove and concepts explored in his experimental trio, Caduceus. Our musical bond formed by sharing artists and authors that pushed creative limits. Dan was a passionate and empathetic individual. Always creating, ever an enthusiastic collaborator.
For this track my fearless collaborators, Brad and Chris, helped conjure this chaotic, moody, riff heavy journey. The aim was not to sound like any one thing, rather to come together, building off core motifs, navigating by the light of the moment. The bass, drums, percussion, and synth they added animated my rough sketches for the song. They were the engine getting us exactly where we needed to be.
Alex set the controls, rolling tape, containing the music, ensuring it could glimpse that distant supernova yet still impact the listener on a visceral, gut level.
In honor of Dan make something cool, from the heart, a mix for a friend, a meal or a song.

The Broken River Prophet is a thought experiment, an oppressive sonic maelstrom or doomed lullabies for storm wrecked dreams. Recording and performing music at its own pace on its own terms. Sometimes as one sometimes as many.
This DC shoegaze group work like fog, bringing in ephemeral melodic layers that swirl together to become something surprisingly heavy. Bandcamp New & Notable May 23, 2018
